Book button not showing on Google? How salons and spas fix it

If the Book button is not showing on your Google Business Profile, it is usually one of three things: your booking software’s connection to Google isn’t switched on or approved yet, your business name or address doesn’t match between the two systems, or nobody has added a booking link. Google says provider buttons can take up to a week to appear, so check the connection first, then the match, then add your own link as a backup.

Book button not showing on a salon Google Business Profile: check the provider connection and add a booking link

A salon or spa profile without a working Book button sends people the long way round: tap the website, hunt for the booking page, maybe give up and book the place next door. The fix is rarely hard, but it lives in two systems (Google and your booking software), and most owners look in the wrong one first.

This guide shows you where the button really comes from, a five-minute check that tells you which cause you have, what to fix on each side, how to pick which link Google shows first, and when the button is supposed to be missing.

Where does the Book button on Google come from?

The Book button on a Google Business Profile comes from one of two places: a booking provider connected through Google’s partner program (often called Reserve with Google), or a booking link you or someone else added to the profile. There is no switch in the profile that creates a button by itself. If neither source is in place and approved, there is nothing for Google to show.

That matters because the two routes behave differently:

Provider connectionBooking link you add
Where you set it upInside your booking software (Fresha, Booksy, StyleSeat, Vagaro, Meevo and others), or in the profile under Bookings > Get startedIn the profile: Edit profile > Booking > Add link
What the client seesA booking flow that can show services and times inside GoogleA button that opens your booking page
How long it takesGoogle says up to a week; vendors quote 24–72 hoursUsually as soon as Google accepts the edit
Most common failureName or address mismatch, plan or feature not switched on, approval still pendingLink never added, or added to the wrong profile
Booking reports in GoogleYes, for connected providersNo; Google says performance data isn’t available for custom links

Google’s own help page on setting up bookings through a provider covers the first route, and its page on managing local business links covers the second. Neither lists every reason a button might be missing, which is why the check below is worth doing in order.

The five-minute check: which cause do you have?

Do this on your phone, signed out of Google or in a private browser tab, so you see what a new client sees rather than the owner view.

  1. Search your salon by name and open the profile. Look for a Book or Book online button and a Booking or Reserve section. Then open the same profile in Google Maps; the two can update at different speeds.
  2. Sign in as an owner or manager and open the profile’s Bookings option. If it shows a connected provider, note which one. If it offers Get started, nothing is connected.
  3. Open Edit profile > Booking and see whether any links are listed, including ones you don’t recognize.
  4. Log in to your booking software and find its Google setting (usually under Integrations, Marketing or Online profile). Note whether it says on, pending, verifying or off.
  5. Put the two records side by side: business name, street address, suite number, city, ZIP and phone, exactly as each system shows them.

Now match what you found:

Fix 1: switch the connection on, and on the right plan

Most salon software doesn’t connect to Google automatically. You have to turn it on, and some vendors only include it on certain plans. StyleSeat’s Google Reserve help page, for example, lists being subscribed to the required plan or feature and having at least one service that meets its booking criteria as conditions, and says Google reviews and approves the integration.

  • Online booking is live in the softwareThe Google connection sends clients to your online booking. If online booking is off, or set to require a login before booking, the connection may fail or frustrate people. Meevo, for one, recommends turning off its initial-login requirement for this reason.
  • At least one bookable service is publicHidden, consultation-only or price-on-request services may not count. Make your core cut, color or treatment bookable online.
  • Staff have working hours setIf no one has open times, there is nothing to book, and some integrations won’t publish.
  • The Google feature is on your planCheck your plan page or ask support directly. It’s a common reason the toggle is greyed out.
  • You connected the right locationMulti-location salons often link location two to location one’s profile. Check each location separately.

Then give it time. Google says provider buttons show up within a week; Meevo’s Google Book Online documentation says 24–72 hours. Changing settings every day restarts nothing and makes problems harder to trace, so make your fixes, note the date, and check again after the window.

Fix 2: make your name, address and phone match exactly

This is the cause owners most often miss. Your booking provider has to match its record of your salon to your Google listing. Meevo’s documentation says that if the button doesn’t appear, the cause could be a mismatch between the business name and address in the software and the profile. StyleSeat’s checklist says the same about names and addresses.

“Close enough” is where it goes wrong. Typical differences:

  • Name: “Luxe Hair Studio” in Google, “Luxe Hair Studio LLC” or “Luxe Hair & Beauty” in the software.
  • Suite: “Suite 104” on one side, “#104” or nothing on the other.
  • Street: “W Lovers Ln” versus “West Lovers Lane.”
  • Phone: the front desk line in Google, an owner’s cell or a tracking number in the software.
  • Old details: you moved or rebranded and updated Google but not the booking software, or the reverse.

Copy the details from your Google profile into the booking software, character for character. Change the software side rather than Google: editing your Google name or address can trigger re-verification, and if you are thinking about a move, read our guide to changing your Google Business Profile address first. Your Google name should be your real-world business name, without added keywords, so don’t “fix” a mismatch by stuffing services into it.

Fix 3: add your own booking link today

You don’t have to wait for the provider connection to give clients a way to book. Google lets you add a booking link yourself, and it works with any booking page, including software that isn’t a Google partner. Do this now as a backup, even while you fix the connection.

  1. Open your profile (search your business name while signed in, or use Google Maps).
  2. On Search, select Booking. On Maps, select Edit profile and then Booking.
  3. Select Add link (or Add another link), paste your online booking URL, and select Save.

Use the direct booking page, not your home page. Test it on a phone: it should open straight to services and times, without a login wall. If your booking page has a separate link per location, use the right one for each profile. Google’s local business links help says you can add up to 10 links per category, but one good link beats several confusing ones.

The trade-off: your own link opens your booking page instead of booking inside Google, and Google won’t show booking reports for it. For most small salons that’s fine. A working link today is worth more than a perfect integration next month.

Fix 4: remove an old provider and set your preferred link

If the button shows but sends clients to a provider you left, or to a marketplace page where competitors appear next to you, the old connection or link is still attached. This happens after switching software, and when a third party has added a link to your profile.

  • To remove a provider: on Search, select Booking > Remove Provider; on Maps, select Edit profile > Booking > Remove Provider. Google says providers need to remove third-party links within 5 days of a removal request.
  • To pick which link shows first: select the booking option, then Set preferred link, choose your link and select Save. Google shows it at the top, marked as business preferred.
  • Also turn off the old software’s Google setting before you cancel the account. Cancelled accounts sometimes keep pushing a dead link.

If links keep appearing that you didn’t add, it’s the same pattern we cover in our guide to fixing a wrong menu on Google Maps: find every source that feeds the profile, fix each one, and keep one master copy.

When the Book button won’t show (and what to do instead)

Sometimes the button is missing for reasons no setting will fix quickly. Know these before you spend a week on support chats.

  • The profile isn’t verified, or you don’t manage it. You can’t connect a provider or add links to a profile you don’t control. If someone else owns it, our guide on how to request ownership of a Google Business Profile walks through it.
  • Your category or business type. Meevo’s documentation warns that depending on how a business is categorized, the button may not appear even after the integration is enabled. Google doesn’t publish a full list of eligible categories, so if yours is unusual, ask your provider whether it is supported. Don’t change your primary category just to get a button; choose the one that describes what you are.
  • Med spas and anything medical. Meevo says businesses that are covered entities under HIPAA should not use its Google integration. If you offer injectables or other medical treatments, check with your compliance adviser before connecting a booking flow, and keep using your own HIPAA-appropriate booking page through a plain link.
  • Your software isn’t a Google partner. Google keeps a list of Reserve with Google partners. If yours isn’t there, the own-link route is your answer.

Whatever the reason, the Call and Website buttons should still work. If they don’t, start there; our guide to a click to call button not working covers the website side.

Mistakes that keep the button hidden

  • Connecting two providers at once to “make sure” one works. You get mixed availability and clients booking into a calendar you don’t check.
  • Creating a second Google profile because the first one won’t show the button. Duplicates split your reviews and can get both listings restricted.
  • Linking to a marketplace page instead of your own booking page, so clients see other salons before they see your times.
  • Never testing as a client. Book a real slot from the profile once a month, then cancel it. It takes three minutes and catches broken links before clients do.

Where to start this week

  1. Today: add your own booking link and set it as preferred, so clients can book while you sort the rest.
  2. Today: match your name, address and phone in the booking software to your Google profile.
  3. This week: switch on the Google connection in your software, confirm it’s on your plan, and note the date.
  4. After a week: check the profile signed out on a phone. Still nothing? Contact the vendor with screenshots of both records.

The Book button is one piece of what makes a salon profile turn searches into appointments. Photos, reviews, categories and a fast booking page all count too. Questions people ask

Is Reserve with Google free for salons?
Google doesn’t charge you to show a booking button, but your booking software may. Some vendors include the Google connection on every plan, others only on paid tiers, and marketplace-style providers may charge fees on new clients. Check your provider’s pricing page before switching it on, and compare that with simply adding your own free booking link.
Can I have more than one booking link on my Google profile?
Yes. Google’s help says you can add up to 10 links per category, and other providers may also add links. Too many options confuse clients, so keep one main link and use Set preferred link so yours appears at the top, marked as business preferred.
Why did my Book button disappear after it was working?
Usually something changed on one side: you edited your name or address in Google or the software, changed plans, switched providers, or the connection was turned off during an account change. Recheck the software’s Google setting and compare both records. Also confirm the profile itself is still verified and not suspended.
Does a Book button help my salon rank higher on Google Maps?
Google doesn’t say booking buttons are a ranking factor, so don’t expect a ranking jump. The benefit is conversion: clients who already found you can book in a couple of taps instead of leaving to find your website. Rankings come from relevance, distance and prominence, including reviews.
